Director of Digital Archive
Company Description
Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company. Working at Nine, you’ll have access to a unique range of experiences and opportunities, helping drive the success of the country’s most trusted television, radio, digital and publishing brands.
Our content reaches almost every Australian - meaning what we do has real impact. We bring people together, celebrate the big moments, and capture the everyday ones.
Some of our most beloved brands have been part of Australian life for generations, and others - new on the scene - have already found their place firmly in our lives. We’re evolving and we need people like you to bring new ideas, innovate and make your mark.
Job Description
We are seeking a visionary leader for a once-in-a-generation project to digitise and productise Nine's content archive. This is a unique opportunity to create a lasting social and historical legacy for Australia.
You will spearhead the creation of a new suite of AI-powered products that will make this content accessible to internal creators and new external markets, generating new, diversified revenue streams for Nine.
Reporting to the Chief Data, Product & Technology Officer Enterprise, the role will work closely with the Data & AI, Product, Technology and Platform infrastructure teams.
Day to day you will:
- Manage the project budget, including both digitization and product development, and oversee the entire process of digitising Nine's diverse physical archive.
- Select and manage external digitisation vendors, and recruit and lead an internal team for the project.
- Drive the development of new AI-powered products for internal and external use, guiding the technical strategy including cloud infrastructure and Generative AI for content indexing.
- Serve as the central point of contact for the project, collaborating with various internal teams, managing risks, developing change management plans, and reporting on milestones and commercial outcomes.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring:
- Proven experience leading large-scale digitization, digital transformation, or archival projects, ideally within media, broadcast, or cultural heritage, with a track record of managing significant project budgets.
- Strong leadership abilities, including recruiting, managing, and developing multi-disciplinary teams, and extensive experience in vendor selection, negotiation, and management.
- Solid understanding of digital asset management systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and data workflows.
- Familiarity with the application of AI, particularly Generative AI, for content processing, search, and creation.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with commercial acumen and experience in developing new products and revenue streams; media industry experience is desirable.
How we work
At Nine, our flexible work options vary by role and team. Depending on the position, this may include flexible hours, hybrid work, or part-time arrangements. We welcome discussing your flexibility needs during the hiring process - just ask the Talent Acquisition team.
Our employee benefits include:
- 18 weeks paid parental leave with no distinction between primary and secondary carers
- Access to 'Employee Exclusives' program - a way of getting closer to our incredible brands, offering unique experiences, behind-the-scenes access, and awesome perks.
- Digital newspaper subscription to our mastheads
- Annual gift voucher for Stan subscription
