The newly funded Cluster of Excellence SCALE- Subcellular Architecture of Life - brings together leading scientists from Goethe University, the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics, the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research, the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS), Saarland University, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
SCALE aims to decipher the fundamental principles of cellular life and to understand how the various structures in our cells emerge and carry out diverse cellular processes. By combining state-of-the-art experimental and computational approaches, SCALE develops innovative tools to explore, map, and simulate the inner architecture of cells. This interdisciplinary work expands our understanding of central biological processes and diseases - from bacterial resistance to neurodegenerative disorders.

is to be filled limited until 31.12.2032. The position is classified according to the job characteristics of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to Goethe University. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis if preferred.
The position entails the coordination of the Excellence Cluster SCALE.

Project Coordinator (m/f/d)
(E 14 TV-G-U)is to be filled limited until 31.12.2032. The position is classified according to the job characteristics of the collective agreement (TV-G-U) applicable to Goethe University. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis if preferred.
The position entails the coordination of the Excellence Cluster SCALE.
- Establishing and managing the SCALE office
- Coordinating collaboration between the participating institutions
- Communication with SCALE representatives for finance, grants office, public relations, and gender equality
- Communication with the researchers involved in SCALE
- Communication with the university's executive board
- Liaising with the third-party funding administration of Goethe University, other participating institutions, and the DFG regarding funding requests
- Organization of internal fund allocations
- Preparation of interim reports to the DFG
- Planning of calls and staffing of scientific and administrative positions
- Planning, documentation, and evaluation of SCALE meetings
- Planning and organizing of SCALE events (symposia, lecture series, constitutive meetings, retreats, workshops, courses)
- Supporting the spokesperson team with evaluations and monitoring
- Drafting SCALE guidelines and regulations
- Networking with other clusters, local CRCs, and graduate schools
- Developing outreach and transfer formats
- Building partnerships with industry and societal partners
- Performing general tasks in research management
- Completed university degree in biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, or related disciplines (ideally a doctorate) with relevant further qualifications, or alternatively proven experience in science management, business and administration, or similar
- Proven experience in project coordination or research management
- Additional qualifications (e.g., project management, science communication, business administration) are desirable
- Excellent written and spoken German and English
- Very good knowledge of project and quality management
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- A high degree of service orientation
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural skills
