Über diesen Job
Vision to Products
Welcome to Hahn-Schickard: The research center for innovative microsystems technology. With a team of over 300 employees, we transform ideas into cross-industry solutions - from conception to production at four locations in Baden-Württemberg. At our Freiburg site, the emphasis is on developing analytical solutions in microsystems technology, particularly for point-of-care diagnostics.
For the area of Microfluidic Platforms in Freiburg, we offer from 01.04.2026 or later a
Master Thesis for Multiplex digital PCR using High-Density Microwell Arrays (m/f/x)
Aim of the thesis
- Multiplexing in digital PCR is often limited by "partition-specific competition" in commercial devices (≈25,000 partitions), where co-encapsulated targets compete for reagents.
- The goal of the thesis is to demonstrate how a LabDisk, with its high-density array of 250,000 microwells, eliminates this competition to ensure robust quantification of liquid biopsy targets like KRAS.
Your Tasks
- Assay Development: Implement a multiplex Mediator Probe dPCR assay on the LabDisk.
- Comparison: Validate LabDisk performance against commercial dPCR systems.
- Data Analysis: Analyze high-density multiplex data.
Your profile
- Studies: Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Medical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
- Skills: Lab experience (pipetting/ PCR) and interest in bioanalytics.
- Work Style: Independent and structured.
- Language: Good English or German
Our offer to you
- Flexible working hours
- Insights into current digital PCR development for molecular diagnostics
- Close supervision and the opportunity to contribute your own ideas
- A young and dynamic team
- An attractive workplace in a modern, excellently equipped research institute that is close to industry
- Participation in first-class health programmes such as Hansefit
- Subsidy for meals
- Subsidies for public transport
