Your responsibilities

We are thrilled to announce a new Artificial Intelligence collaboration between CERN, the World Food Program (WFP), and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). This strategic alliance aims to harness CERN's AI algorithms, LIST's expertise in AI for Earth Observation (EO) and crop modelling, and WFP's program capabilities to address issues related to food insecurity and acute hunger. In particular, prediction of extreme precipitations would be one of the first objectives of the projects, in line with broader state of the art efforts, such as the ongoing ECMWF WeatherGenerator project.

As a successful applicant, you will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to utilising AI algorithms for enhanced building damage assessment, crop damage evaluation, and weather modelling and forecasting.

Your profile

Skills:

• Proven experience in Machine Learning and Deep Learning development frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Demonstrated experience in developing, training, and optimising Deep Learning models.
• Familiarity with transformer-based architectures.
• Experience with Earth System data is a plus.
• Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• You have a professional background in Computer Science or related discipline (or a related field) and have either:
• a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
• or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

What we offer

• A monthly stipend ranging between 6287 and 6911 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
