Open Science Manager (RCS-SIS-OS-2025-154-LD)

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Job Description

Introduction:

Do you want to shape the future of Open Science at CERN and beyond? Take part!

You will join the Research & Computing Sector (RCS), where the Scientific Information Service (SIS) supports scientists at CERN and beyond to find the information they need and apply open science practices throughout their research. The Scientific Information Service hosts the CERN Open Science Office and is also involved in several international projects to promote CERN’s traditional values of openness and collaboration.

In this role, you will initiate and participate in discussions and governance processes around open science across the organization. You will take ownership of existing or new projects related to open science practices within CERN or in collaboration with international partners and actively disseminate CERN’s values on open science to stakeholders across particle physics and other scientific disciplines. As part of CERN’s central open science office, you will actively support the implementation efforts of CERN’s open science policy and ensure the smooth operation of existing tools, services and collaborations in this domain.

Functions:

As Open Science Manager, you will join a dynamic and self-organised team where cross-departmental collaboration is a key principle.

Your role will include the following responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute to the further evolution of the CERN Open Science policy by facilitating the exchange of stakeholders within CERN and partnering research organisations and translating community needs into actionable policy measures.
  • Represent the Organization at international conferences and projects and advertise CERN’s leading role in open science. Actively engage with strategic stakeholders of CERN in collaboratively organised projects and represent the interests of the Organization in project or collaboration governance bodies.
  • Organise the efficient and smooth operation of cross-departmental projects and initiatives in the open science and information management field, including managing stakeholders with international partners.
  • As projects develop, you will have the opportunity to supervise a diverse team of specialists in scientific information management and open science, share knowledge and contribute to a productive and collaborative working environment.
