Your responsibilities

Within the Beams department (BE) the Controls Electronics and Mechatronics (CEM) group is responsible for the control of Beam Intercepting Devices within the CERN accelerator complex.

This position is focused on Low-Level programming for mechatronic controls.

Specifically, you will:

• take the responsibility for the control software architecture definition and development of firmware and low level software for the novel LHC Collimators, FRAS and RAC3 control systems projects based on SaMbuCa.
• implement algorithms for precision motion control and sensors' signal acquisition of Beam Intercepting Devices on SoC, CPU and microcontrollers (Texas Instruments family).

Your profile

Skills

• Experience in low-level and embedded programming;
• Strong proficiency in C, with experience in best practices for architecture design;
• Experience with hardware functional testing and software unit testing;
• Experience with assembly programming language;
• Familiarity with TI C2000 microcontrollers is a plus;
• Knowledge of power electronics is beneficial for this role;
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the basics of the other language.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• You have a professional background in Software Engineer (or a related field) and have either:
• a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
• or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.
