We are now looking forward to the right person to become a part of our international legal team to join us as a
Legal Counsel
for our Business Area Markets, Staff Function Legal & CEO Office for our central Hamburg office in a permanent role.
Your key responsibilities
As a part of the legal department you will advise on a variety of legal matters including:
- Developing agreements and structures to meet the challenges of the energy transition (e.g. battery energy storage systems (BESS)) in close collaboration with the business
- Drafting and reviewing master trading documentation and bespoke agreements for commodity and allowances/certificates trading and related documentation including credit support documents, NDAs, exclusivity agreements, etc.
- Participating in projects/working groups providing strategic legal advice to the organization
- Stay up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations that may impact the business
- Instructing and working with external counsel
Your qualifications
- German law degree with excellent qualification
- 3+ years of experience in energy related commercial/contract law and/or financial trading law – preferably gained in a reputable law firm, legal department of an international (trading) company or bank
- Excellent command of the English and German language (written & spoken)
- Strong analytical capabilities, highly self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team

We employ around 500 professionals who are active across Europe with offices in Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom to drive the energy transition together. Our role in Vattenfall is to maximize the value of the overall portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging, and sourcing for Vattenfall's sales and generation volumes. We serve as Vattenfall’s single access to energy commodity markets and trade electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates.
We, the Legal Department supporting BA Markets, are a cross locational team with lawyers located in Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany. We are committed to support the wide variety of current BA Market’s activities as well as the development of new products in close collaboration with various other departments to grow the business of BA Markets within Vattenfall.
