PhD Student Accelerator Physics for future circular colliders and PETRA IV

The accelerator division has as its mission the design and operation of cutting-edge accelerator facilities as well as accelerator R&D. PETRA IV is the planned new synchrotron radiation facility which is currently undergoing its financial approval process. The goal of the project is to replace the 2.3 km long PETRA III storage ring with a new ultra-low emittance ring based on multi-bend achromat technology. The accelerator division is also actively involved in R&D activities for the future circular collider at CERN and for SuperKEKB.
About your role:
- As part of the beam dynamics team, you will perform R&D into the performance optimisation of the FCC-ee complex and explore synergetic applications with the PETRA IV complex at DESY

- Masters degree in physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics or an equivalent qualification
- Strong academic record
- High motivation to work on the project
- Team player with good communication skills
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken

DESY in Hamburg does not grant doctoral degrees directly but collaborates with the University of Hamburg. Candidates for thesis research will have to satisfy the terms of admission for doctoral theses of the University of Hamburg. PhD students receive a monthly salary of 67% of the payment of the remuneration group 13 TVöD (Federal Government).
