The DREAMSEA research project – jointly conducted by the Center for the Study of Islam and Society (PPIM) at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta and the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) at the University of Hamburg – aims at preserving endangered manuscripts owned and archived by individuals residing in Southeast Asia by digitizing them onsite and opening access to it online. After a successful phase of 7 years, it will start its second 5-year phase in 2026.
To support the project teams in Hamburg and Jakarta, we are looking for a committed person to coordinate and provide organizational support for the project.
Specific Duties
- organize monthly online meetings between Jakarta and Hamburg, including agenda follow-up
- support the Jakarta team with communication with external partners before and after missions, scheduling, and collaboration with external experts
- coordinate with the Jakarta project team, IT/data management in Hamburg, and PIs to plan and monitor deadlines for metadata completion and image uploads
- organize annual board meetings and regional workshops (online and in-person) with Jakarta
- assist Jakarta and Hamburg administration, finance officers, and PIs in preparing mid-term and annual reports
- facilitate the exchange of relevant information about DREAMSEA's public exposure in Southeast Asia with the CSMC communication officer in coordination with Jakarta
Requirements
- a university degree in a relevant field
Required skills and personal qualities
- fluent in English, other Southeast Asian language(s) appreciated in addition
- knowledge of Excel
- cultural knowledge about the region and/or working in a multicultural environment
- previous experience in project management appreciated
- ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities effectively
- comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
