We are strengthening our Continental Power Trading team in Hamburg and are looking for an experienced Senior Options Trader to drive our growing options trading initiative.
As a Senior Options Trader, you will take ownership of a proprietary options trading portfolio with a strong focus on power, EUAs, and other energy commodities traded across Vattenfall’s markets. In this pivotal role, you will shape strategies, manage risk, and contribute to the commercial success of our business.
Your responsibilities
- Manage and grow a proprietary options trading P&L with a primary focus on power and emissions; extend strategies to other relevant energy commodities.
- Combine directional trading with mid‑ to long‑term volatility and optionality strategies; originate, structure, and execute trades across multiple maturities, strikes, and structures.
- Use quantitative, fundamental, and technical insights to build high‑conviction trading views and translate them into disciplined risk‑taking.
- Actively manage Greeks and exposures: define hedging strategies, monitor positions, and adjust within risk limits and changing market environments.
- Ensure robust governance and risk discipline, including valuation integrity, trade booking accuracy, and documentation quality.
- Work closely with Trading Analysis, cross‑desk traders, and support functions (Risk, Operations, IT/Quants) to continuously enhance models, tools, and analytical capabilities.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with internal stakeholders and senior management, presenting market views, risk positions, and performance.
- Contribute to the growth and success of the Continental Power Trading team by advancing our Options Trading initiative.
Your profile
- Master’s degree or higher in finance, economics, mathematics, physics, engineering, statistics, financial engineering, or another quantitative field.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in energy derivatives or options trading with a proven and profitable track record; substantial experience in power and emissions is essential.
- Strong, hands‑on risk management capabilities with clear decision‑making and disciplined risk‑taking.
- Deep understanding of the broader energy complex (power–gas–coal–carbon) and the link between fundamentals, cross‑commodity dynamics, and volatility.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to connect data‑driven signals and market narratives into executable trading strategies.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset; willingness to share knowledge and engage with stakeholders across the organisation.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional languages are a plus.
- Self‑driven, results‑oriented working style with high reliability, resilience, and full ownership of outcomes.
