German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB), Hannover
As the German National Library of Science and Technology our future-oriented services ensure the infrastructural requirements for a high-quality supply of information and literature for research in science and industry.
The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology – Program Area C, Research and Development, Team Terminology Service is looking to employ a
as of 1st January 2026.
The position is limited to two years. The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time) and the position is generally suitable for part-time employment. The position is assigned to pay scale group 11 TV-L of the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (TV-L). Recruitment is subject to final funding approval by the European Commission.
Your challenge
This position is part of the ‘European Cultural Heritage Optimised Linked Open Tools (ECHOLOT)’ project funded by the European Union (EU). The international cooperation covers a period of three years. The aim of the project is to address selected challenges related to the management of our common digital cultural heritage (CH). Although important progress has been made in the standardised processing of this data in recent years, many cultural heritage treasures still lie in isolated data silos - characterised by different formats, working methods and levels of technical maturity. With ECHOLOT, we are developing open, user-friendly tools that bring these islands together: A key challenge in this context is the management of rights for digital content. This creates a legal framework for the use of online content and AI. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of the C2PA specification, which not only ensures the origin and integrity of content, but also opens up new ways of making digital cultural assets traceable and accessible in a future-proof manner through transparent trust labels, automated verification processes and expandable metadata models.
Your tasks include
- Development and maintenance of modular, open-source tools for the creation and validation of metadata
- Implementation of data models
- Design, implementation and integration of C2PA functions for embedding signed provenance information in digital images and files
- Development of metadata validation routines and customised policy rules
- Collaboration with cultural institutions and developers within the ECHOLOT ecosystem
- Documentation and publication of code, APIs and data models for public use
Your profile
- You have at least a completed university degree at Bachelor’s level (or an equivalent degree from a University of Applied Sciences) in information technology (e.g. computer science, business informatics), mathematics or another comparable and relevant discipline
- Strong experience in Python, JavaScript or Java
- Working knowledge of API development and data validation frameworks
- Experience with metadata standards (e.g. Dublin Core, PREMIS, PROV-O, EDM)
- Very good written and spoken English skills
Desirable additions to your profile
- Experience with digital asset management systems or cultural heritage platforms
- Interest in digital preservation, open data and digital ethics
- Knowledge of C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) or IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework)
- Experience working in or with museums, libraries or archives
- Open-source contributions or community engagement
