The Department of Pediatric Nephrology at Heidelberg University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and proactive Patient Engagement Manager (50–100%) to support the European Reference Network for Rare Kidney Diseases (ERKNet) during a maternity leave replacement.
This is a fixed-term position for one year, starting October 15, 2025, with the potential for continuation. The position is compensated according to the TV-UK tariff.
About ERKNet
ERKNet is one of 24 EU-funded European Reference Networks (ERNs) dedicated to improving care for people living with rare diseases. It brings together over 70 expert centers across Europe, providing care to more than 70,000 adults and children affected by rare kidney conditions.
Beyond clinical care, ERKNet also drives cross-border collaboration in research and education, offering clinical training and developing joint research efforts to improve outcomes for patients. Patients are at the heart of ERKNet’s mission: they are actively involved in all aspects of the network, from strategic decision-making to the co-design of educational materials and research priorities.

Your tasks
- Coordinate the development and dissemination of patient-friendly informational material
- Maintain and enhance ERKNet’s patient-facing website, ensuring up-to-date, accessible and interactive content that promotes two-way communication with clinicians and researchers
- Support and promote patient-initiated research projects within the network
- Plan, coordinate and facilitate live and virtual meetings
- Foster meaningful and structured engagement of patients in ERKNet’s research, governance and clinical activities
Your profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, Healthcare Research, Biology, Communication Science or equivalent and experience working with international patient organizations is an asset
- Experience in project management, ideally within research or healthcare settings, is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team, bringing excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
