Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK) is a private research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. The Augmented Intelligence Center is a newly established FBK center aiming to bring together a plurality of scientific areas already present in FBK to open up a new frontier of research in the field of Augmented Intelligence. The key research lines in Augmented Intelligence encompass: Foundational Artificial Intelligence, Human-Artificial Intelligence Interaction, Cooperative and Social Artificial Intelligence, Proactive ethical Artificial Intelligence.
Research activity of the FBK Center in Augmented Intelligence is supported by research groups working in machine learning, natural language processing, dialogue technologies, speech recognition, human-computer interaction, computer vision, multi-modal perception, neuro-symbolic techniques, data and knowledge representation and reasoning, data and process intelligence, neuroinformatics, cooperative and social Artificial Intelligence. The Center benefits from the expertise and scientific excellence of approximately 80 researchers and developers, including senior researchers, emerging talents, and doctoral students affiliated with these FBK research groups.
The Deep Visual Learning group (DVL) conducts research in the areas of deep learning and computer vision. Our work focuses on developing novel methodologies for learning models to automatically analyze images and videos. We are especially interested in developing deep models which successfully adapt and continually learn from real-world visual data. Recent projects include object recognition and detection, pixel-level prediction tasks (e.g. depth estimation from monocular input, semantic segmentation) and human behaviour analysis and synthesis.

Job Description

The purpose of FBK’s Tenure Track program is to offer high-level professionals the opportunity to pursue a structured career path to become tenured researchers contributing to the organization's long-term strategy.
Within this framework, FBK is looking to cover the position with a dynamic, highly motivated, independent profile. The candidate will work within the DVL research unit, reporting directly to the head of the research unit.
The successful candidate will be involved in European and national research projects focused on Embodied AI, aiming to develop autonomous agents that learn to perceive, reason and act through interaction with a physical or simulated environment.

The successful candidate is expected to:

• Conduct and lead high-quality research in embodied AI, with a particular focus on perception and reasoning, and to prepare and submit competitive grant proposals to support and advance this line of research.
• Support and/or lead scientific dissemination (publications, open-source releases where applicable) and contribute to the supervision and co-supervision of master’s students, PhD students, and interns.
• The candidate is expected to contribute proactively and autonomously to the research unit, the center, and the whole FBK, in close coordination with the head of the unit.

Job requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree.
• At least 3 years of postdoc research experience in Computer Vision and Robotics Perception, with proven publication record in top-tier conference and journals (CVPR, ICCV/ECCV, ICRA/IROS, IEEE TPAMI, IJCV);
• Demonstrated expertise in multimodal foundation models and embodied AI;
• Strong programming skills in Python (PyTorch, Lightning);
• Experience in leveraging HPC solutions for model training;
• Proficiency in the English language;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively present research results at scientific conferences.

Additional requirements:

• Good team working attitude;
• Good self-organization and autonomous operation;
• Experience in the preparation and management of research and industrial project proposals;
• Experience in working on research and industrial projects with national and international partners;
• Experience in science communication and outreach activities at public venues.

Employment

Type of contract : Tenure Track position leading to an FBK 3nd Level Researcher (R3) permanent contract.

Duration : The duration of the Tenure Track contract will be determined by the Committee based on the assigned KPIs (at least one year, which may be reduced in accordance with the Committee assessment on the candidate's abilities and skills). If the final assessment of the Tenure Track experience is positive, the selected candidate for the tenure track position will be offered a permanent R3 contract.

Working hours: full time (38 h per week).

Gross annual salary : 44.500 € (plus objectives achievement bonus).

Start date : May 2026
