The Nuclear and Particle Physics Research Group in the Jülich Supercomputing Centre is looking to recruit a

Postdoctoral Reseacher - Lattice Field Theory

Jülich is renowned for its world-class supercomputers, most notably it operates JUPITER, the fourth largest supercomputer of the world. Also there are several experimental quantum computing devices. Jülich researchers can have exclusive access to parts of these machines. At the Jüllich Supercomputer Centre (JSC) the Nuclear and Particle Physics Research Group is working on projects both at zero temperature (g-2, meson and baryon properties) and finite temperature (phase diagram, axions). Joining one of these projects is welcome, but not mandatory. We also have an ongoing lattice field theory project on a recently installed quantum annealing device. The group has strong ties to the particle physic group in Marseille (France) and in Budapest (Hungary). We have regular meetings, online and in presence, with these colleagues.

You will be

  • developing efficient methods for lattice field theory problems
  • implementing these methods on highly-scalable supercomputing architectures
  • applying for and taking care of supercomputer resources
  • coaching bachelor and master students
  • publishing results in physics journals and presenting them at international conferences

while collaborating with the scientists at JSC an in the Budapest-Marseille-Wuppertal lattice collaboration.

Your Profile:

  • Master and subsequent PhD in theoretical particle physics or similar field
  • Strong motivation for working in the field
  • Extensive experience in managing supercomputer resources
  • Strong skills in algorithm development for large sparse matrices
  • Excellency in programming GPU accelerators from all major vendors
  • Very good command of written and spoken English (at least B2 level according to the CEFR: https://go.fzj.de/languagerequirements ), ideally supported by a certificate confirming the language level. Knowledge of German is not prerequisite (courses are offered).
  • Structured and systematic working style and ability to work cooperatively in international teams

  • FIXED-TERM: The position is limited to 2 years
