The Leibniz Institute for Composite Materials (IVW) GmbH is one of the world's leading institutions in the field of composite materials. We investigate and develop the entire value chain of composite materials "from the scientific basis to the component".
To strengthen our team in the "Smart Composites & Nondestructive Testing"- we are looking for a Research Assistant (m/f/d)
Your task
Non-destructive testing is a key element in modern multifunctional lightweight construction using fiber reinforced composites and hybrid construction methods. High degrees of freedom in material and component design and the demands of automated production require new approaches for the efficient and economical testing of components, parts, and semi-finished products.
Your task is to develop theoretical and practical tools for the development of new test methods for multifunctional composite components. The focus is on X-ray computed tomography and ultrasound-based methods (pulse-echo ultrasound, guided waves), as well as infrared thermography. Practical objectives require an understanding of fundamental physical relationships as well as consideration of materials science and manufacturing technology aspects.
You will join a highly motivated team of research assistants, laboratory engineers, and technicians and will play an important role in this team. As part of an interdisciplinary team, you will clarify interesting scientific principles and work in direct contact with industrial partners on current application-related issues.
Your profile
- Good knowledge of polymer-based composites
- Basic knowledge of measurement and control technology or programming skills, preferable in python
- First experience with modern methods of material characterization
- High motivation, initiative, creativity, and ability to work in a team
- Analytical thinking and independent working style
- Good written and spoken German and English skills
- Above-average university degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, aerospace engineering, or comparable disciplines
