In our research group in the Institute for Microstructure Technology (IMT), we focus on the development of metamaterials inspired by brain activity, capable of adaptive behavior and training analogous to neural networks. The goal is to explore novel physical systems that combine microstructured architectures with opto- and electro-sensitive materials to realize learning-like functionalities.
We are looking for a highly motivated student assistant to join an interdisciplinary research project at the interface of physics, materials science, chemistry, and engineering.

Your tasks:
- design and fabrication of components with microfabrication and additive manufacturing;
- development of measurement setup;
- development of the electrical circuits. Desired skills:
- CAD modeling (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.);
- circuit designing (KLayout, EasyEDA, Eagle, etc.);
- basic programming skills (Matlab, Python);
- good communication skills in English or German (German is a plus, but not required). Bonus Skills:
- soldering, electrical circuits fabrication;
- interest in interdisciplinary studies between physics, chemistry and engineering.
- curiosity for brain-inspired systems, metamaterials, and adaptive materials We offer:
- work up to 40 hours per month (4-month contract, extension possible with increase of work hours up to 80h);
- work independently and flexibly on your tasks. Starting period of the position: As soon as possible Long-term prospects: Minimum term of 4 months; further extensions are possible and preferred.
