Karl Landsteiner University (Austria) invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine. The position is embedded in an internationally oriented research environment at the Krems Campus and within the University Hospital Network of St. Pölten, Krems, and Tulln.
The successful candidate will join a research group focusing on synaptic function and calcium channel signaling in health and disease. The research program combines neuronal cell culture models, fluorescence microscopy, electrophysiology, and molecular approaches to address fundamental questions in synaptic physiology and pathophysiology.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead research projects in synaptic physiology and neuroscience, with the opportunity to develop an independent research profile
- Teach physiology to medical students (language of instruction: English) and contribute to academic administration
- Acquire, manage, and lead third-party funded research projects
- Supervise Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students
- Contribute to the coordination and scientific development of the research group
- Present research at national and international scientific conferences
Profile
- PhD in the life sciences or a closely related field
- Proven expertise in neuronal cell culture models, fluorescence microscopy, electrophysiology, and synaptic function, documented by peer-reviewed publications
- Basic knowledge of molecular and immunohistochemical methods, as well as bioinformatics and statistics
- International research experience (e.g. postdoctoral training)
- Strong motivation for scientific research, teaching, and student supervision
- Independent and reliable working style, strong team skills, and excellent communication abilities

The position is initially limited to four years and is designed as a tenure-track–like position, with the possibility of permanent employment following a positive evaluation. The role provides excellent opportunities for career development, including the establishment of an independent research profile and preparation for a future principal investigator position.
