The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) in Leipzig is seeking to fill the following position with immediate effect for a limited duration of two years:
The Leibniz Institute for Surface Engineering (IOM) is researching new functional and precision surfaces for applications of high societal relevance and emerging technologies. One key focus of IOM is on fundamental physical and chemical processes using ions, electrons, plasmas and photons. We are part of the Leibniz Association, one of the four major non-university science organizations with 97 institutes in Germany.
We are looking for a competent, open-minded personality to strengthen our team as soon as possible. We offer you full-time (40 hours, Part-time employment is possible) employment with a limitation of provisionally two years. The aim is to continue employment for an unlimited period of time.

Your tasks:
- Operational and strategic controlling of economic and scientific key figures
- Further development of the IOM's controlling instruments
- Preparation of target/actual comparisons and variance analyses, identification of optimization potentials
- Monitoring of separate financial statements, cash flows and liquidity situation
- Responsible participation in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
- Risk, contract and measure controlling
- Participation in budget planning, considering the strategic performance and structural goals of the institute
- Collaboration on concepts, presentations and decision papers for the Executive Board and committees
- Provision of figures for the steering committee and to support working groups
Our requirements:
- Several years of relevant professional experience in finance and controlling (desirable in a research institution and experience with public funding law)
- Completed bachelor's/university of applied sciences degree in business administration or a comparable field or equivalent commercial training
- Familiarity with cost accounting tools
- High IT affinity and familiarity with relevant Office applications and modern ERP systems (preferably Sage 100)
- Talent for grasping, analyzing, making plausible and communicating complex relationships
- Independent, solution-oriented, structured and careful way of working
- Initiative and a high level of commitment to your area of responsibility
- Ability to work in a team as well as planning and organizational skills
- Knowledge of written and spoken English is an advantage
