Director, Global Consultant Relations (GCR) Relationship Manager
Location: Munich, Bavaria Team: External Relationship Management Job Requisition #: R256760 Date posted: Sep. 15, 2025About this role
BlackRock is one of the world’s preeminent asset management firms and a premier provider of global investment management, risk management and advisory services to institutional, intermediary and individual investors around the world. BlackRock offers a range of solutions — from rigorous fundamental and quantitative active management approaches aimed at maximizing outperformance to highly efficient indexing strategies designed to gain broad exposure to the world’s capital markets. Our clients can access our investment solutions through a variety of product structures, including individual and institutional separate accounts, mutual funds and other pooled investment vehicles, and the industry-leading iShares® ETFs.
Global Consultant Relations
The Global Consultant Relations (GCR) team sits within the Institutional Client Business. GCR is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with global, regional and local consultants across all asset classes. Primarily based in the US and UK, GCR is also represented in Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia.
In practice, our commitment to fostering long-term relationships with investment consultants means we can gain a deep understanding of our clients' long-term objectives. Having a culture where we share knowledge across asset classes and regions allows us to create investment solutions that better meet client specific challenges. A key pillar underpinning our offering is our risk management culture and systems: we seek to ensure that every investment position is deliberate, diversified and appropriately scaled.
Job Purpose/Background:
The GCR Relationship Manager (RM) plays a pivotal role in driving commercial success by influencing consultant investment strategy and positioning BlackRock as the preferred partner for delivering client solutions. The RM is responsible for securing and sustaining buy ratings for target products and services, proactively identifying opportunities to collaborate on new product development, and ensuring that field consultants consistently turn to BlackRock when constructing investment portfolios.
This role is commercially oriented, with a strong emphasis on deepening consultant engagement to generate tangible sales outcomes. Success is measured not only by strategic alignment but also by the RM’s ability to convert influence into product adoption and revenue growth.
Given the strategic importance of investment consultants to BlackRock’s institutional business in the DACH region, the RM must work in close partnership with the local Institutional Client Business (ICB) team to align priorities, share insights, and jointly execute on growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of GCR’s consultant engagement strategy in the DACH region, with a strong focus on firm priorities, commercial outcomes and shared client opportunities.
Build and deepen strategic relationships with global consultants, local consultants, and alternative investment specialist firms operating in the DACH region to position BlackRock as a trusted partner across the full spectrum of investment capabilities.
Drive monetisation of ‘buy’ ratings by aligning consultant influence with scalable and high-priority product opportunities, with a particular focus on private markets investments such as infrastructure and private credit.
Actively manage and coordinate consultant-led RFPs to maximise commercial impact and win rate.
Ensure consistent and high-impact engagement with key influencers at consultant firms, enabling field consultants to access the right BlackRock experts and insights at the right time.
Collaborate closely with Institutional Client Business (ICB) teams and investment partners to align consultant strategy with broader client objectives and accelerate revenue generation across all channels.
Shape and contribute to the research agenda in line with firm priorities and evolving client needs.
Deliver thought leadership on BlackRock’s investment themes and strategic initiatives, ensuring consultants are equipped with timely and relevant insights.
Maintain a strong understanding of BlackRock’s product suite and operational capabilities - especially in private markets - to effectively position solutions and respond to consultant requirements.
Capture and share consultant feedback to inform product development, sales strategy, and client servicing enhancements.
Serve as the escalation point for complex consultant-related issues, particularly in the context of evolving retirement landscapes and their impact on client-consultant dynamics.
Provide leadership and coaching to junior RMs and leverage support from the iHub team in Budapest to ensure effective execution, development, and delivery across the consultant coverage model.
Key Skills:
10+ years’ industry experience
Fluency in German and English, other language skills a plus
A results-orientated self-starter who can quickly analyse consultant needs and focus on commercial delivery
Ability to network and develop long-term relationships with consultants and internal business partners
Ability to build strong and collaborative relationships within the firm – within Consultant Relations team, the Institutional Client Business and with a network of internal colleagues across BlackRock
Excellent organizational and project management skills with a proven ability to prioritise effectively
Collaborative individual who acts in the best of interest of the firm
Proactive team player
Deep knowledge and genuine interest in the German and Swiss pension, insurance and family office market, regulatory and investment industry and associated competitive landscape
University degree plus professional qualifications such as CFA or CAIA is desirable
Strong knowledge of Investment markets and an interest in private market investments
