The department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition conducts research on the incentives, determinants and implications of innovation and entrepreneurship processes, as well as their behavioral foundations.

The department, headed by Prof Dietmar Harhoff, PhD, is searching as soon as possible for a Full-Stack DevOps Engineer & Developer (f/m/d) .

Workplace

The Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition is a publicly funded research institute and part of the Max Planck Society. It is situated in Munich’s old town, at the populous Karlsplatz (Stachus).

The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Department, headed by Prof Dietmar Harhoff, PhD, is part of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition and currently consists of 15 researchers. Its research is focused on Innovation, Entrepreneurship, as well as Behavioral Foundations . The working language is English. No remote job, but mobile working is possible up to 2 days/week.

Logic Mill platform

• Logic Mill is a scalable, open-access platform that identifies semantically similar scientific publications and patents, leveraging embeddings based on our own machine learning models and it supports research in our field.
• The system consists of a multi-node environment , with an Elasticsearch database, data pipelines in Go and Python Data is served via a GraphQL/REST API and a Vue.js/Tailwind web interface .
• Logic Mill is used by researchers worldwide.

About the position

• You will be maintaining and monitoring the system that consists of a multi-node environment with Linux servers
  and a large Elasticsearch database.
• Monitor, maintain, and develop data pipelines in Go and Python that will extract, transform, and load data into the
  database.
• Maintain and develop the server software (GraphQL, REST API) and the website that is built in Vue.js/Tailwind.
• The term of appointment is up to three years, with a probation period of six months.
• The gross salary is based on the German Labor Agreement for Public Service (TVöD).

Your qualifications

• BSc/MSc in Computer Science or related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in modern software and infrastructure development, including several of the following
  areas:
• Experience in Linux system administration, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure.
• Programming in Python, Go, HTML, and/or JavaScript.
• Working with Elasticsearch/Kibana, GraphQL, relational databases (SQL), and building data pipelines.
• Designing, developing, and documenting APIs and integrating them with frontend applications.
• Experience with AI technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), agent-based systems, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
• Practical expertise in training and optimizing neural networks on high-performance (GPU-enabled) computing systems.
• Effective collaboration and communication skills.
• Outstanding documentation skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
