Your Tasks

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated intern (m/f/d) to support our thermal design and analysis efforts for the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission. LISA represents the most ambitious space program in European history, aiming to detect gravitational waves generated by phenomena such as supermassive black hole mergers. This groundbreaking mission will utilize a triangular constellation of three spacecraft separated by 2.5 million kilometers, employing laser interferometry to measure low- frequency gravitational waves. Given the stringent technical requirements of LISA, particularly in thermal engineering, we are developing innovative methods to meet these challenges. As an intern, you will be directly involved in this cutting-edge work, gaining hands-on experience in thermal modeling, analysis and system behavior assessments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of thermal modeling and analysis for space structures.
  • Conduct trade studies focused on thermal stability and performance optimization.
  • Create sensitivity models to evaluate system behavior under varying thermal conditions.
  • Write scripts to process and analyze thermal result data.Present your findings and participate in discussions during technical meetings.

Software Tools You Will Use

  • ESATAN-TMS
  • Altair HyperWorks
  • MathWorks MATLAB
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Your Qualifications

  • Strong sense of initiative, teamwork skills, and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • A structured and systematic approach to problem-solving.
  • Interest in simulation and modelling techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB (preferred).
  • Foundational knowledge of heat transfer principles (conduction, radiation) is an advantage.
Mobile Work: Hybrid work
Structured on-boarding process
Development: individual professional development (incl. E-Learnings)
space projects
