Über diesen Job

Who we are

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 75 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado .

Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

The impact you will make

As Laser Engineer, you will play an essential hands-on role in supporting the installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of Marvel Fusion’s cutting-edge, ultra-high intensity laser systems at facilities worldwide. Working closely with experienced laser engineers, experimental physicists, and external partners you will help transition advanced laser technology from development to real-world operation. Your work will directly enable experimental progress in Marvel Fusion’s unique laser-driven fusion concept.
This role is ideal for early-career engineers who enjoy practical, technical work, like solving problems in the field, and want exposure to next-generation high-power laser systems.

Your responsibilities

  • Support on-site installation, alignment, and integration of high-power, ultrafast laser subsystems
  • Assist with commissioning activities, system checks, acceptance testing, and performance validation
  • Conduct routine system diagnostics, maintenance, and troubleshooting under guidance from senior engineers
  • Gather and report field data to engineering teams to help refine system designs and procedures
  • Contribute to documentation such as operating procedures, alignment guides, and maintenance logs
  • Collaborate with partner facilities and suppliers during deployment and testing phases
  • Participate in R&D activities including prototype testing, component evaluation, and optical assembly
  • Travel internationally for several weeks at a time to support installations and operations

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s, PhD degree in Physics, Optical Engineering, Laser Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience working with ultrafast or high-power laser systems (e.g., during studies, internships, or industry roles)
  • Practical skills in optical alignment, optomechanical setup, and safe laser operation
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrometers, autocorrelators, or energy meters
  • Basic understanding of ultrafast laser principles, nonlinear optics, or beam propagation
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style
  • Proactive, hands-on mindset with willingness to work in dynamic laboratory and facility environments
  • Ability and enthusiasm to work and travel globally

What sets you apart

  • Experience with field work, technical service, laboratory operations, or commissioning activities
  • Exposure to CPA/OPCPA systems, diode-pumped lasers, or high-energy laser labs
  • Familiarity with industrial or research safety standards, including laser safety
  • Experience using optical design or simulation tools (Zemax, LASCAD, etc.)
  • Knowledge of programming or automation tools (LabVIEW, Python, EPICS, PLC systems)

What we offer

Our mission is motivation enough for many. But we also support our team with benefits that foster wellbeing and growth:

  • Public transport reimbursement
  • EGYM Wellpass fitness club access
  • Complimentary health insurance
  • Professional development support
  • Healthy office snacks
