Who we are

Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.

As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.

We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.

The role

As Manager / Senior Expert, German War Weapons Control Act, you will hold operational responsibility for handling war weapons in accordance with the War Weapons Control Act (KrWaffKontrG). In this role, you will report both technically and disciplinarily to the Group Director Export Control, joining a team of specialists who serve as a crucial business enabler within customs, export control, and the War Weapons Control Act framework, continually supporting Helsing's successful trajectory. You will act as a key interface between internal departments and authorities regarding war weapons law issues.

The day-to-day

  • Keeping and maintaining the war weapons register in accordance with § 13 KrWaffKontrG

  • Assisting in the preparation of authorisation applications for handling and exporting war weapons (to BAFA, BMVg)

  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with the KrWaffKontrG. You will also support colleagues in adhering to and internally enforcing related regulations

  • Implementing, expanding, and optimising all processes within the KrWaffKontrG framework

  • Conducting and documenting internal checks to ensure compliance with legal requirements

  • Advising relevant departments (production, logistics, sales, development) on all matters relating to war weapons control

  • Performing spot checks and audits at Helsing sites together with the Director Export Control

  • Serving as the primary contact person for external bodies such as the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy or the BAFA regarding KrWaffKontrG matters

  • Supporting the Group Director Export Control in implementing the KrWaffKontrG within the Internal Control Program (ICP)

You should apply if you

  • University degree or degree from a university of applied sciences (e.g., in law, economics, business administration, security management) or completed vocational training with comparable qualifications from a defence company

  • Relevant professional experience in export control, ideally with a focus on KrWaffKontrG

  • Sound knowledge of German foreign trade law, KrWaffKontrG, AWG/AWV, and related European and U.S. export control regulations

  • Experience in dealing with authorities, particularly the BMWE, BAFA, BMVg, and customs

  • A highly meticulous, structured, and document-oriented working style

  • High resilience, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility

  • Business fluent German and good written and spoken English skills

  • Willingness to undergo security clearance in accordance with SÜG (Ü2 or Ü3)

Note: This position is subject to the requirements of the War Weapons Control Act. Therefore, a security clearance, as well as high personal integrity and reliability, are mandatory. We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematicallyunder-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.

  • In our domain, success is a matter of order-of-magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts
