About the project QuantWorld is an interdisciplinary project funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Aeronautics (BMFTR), led by the Technical University of Munich, and supported by Fraunhofer AISEC and the TUM University Hospital Rechts der Isar. It is affiliated with the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology. The project’s mission is to make quantum knowledge accessible to people from all walks of life through an online learning platform currently under development and artistic interventions.

The module-based learning platform is designed to focus on everyday applications in the realms of medicine, banking/security, and mobility. Moreover, we organize events called QuantWorld Challenges in which citizen scientists, schoolchildren, students, and professionals work with methods of artistic intervention to make second-generation quantum technologies more tangible. Examples of past events are public workshops along with art installations where quantum is represented creatively through sculptures and other art forms. The student assistant will support the role of the Chair for Innovation, Society & Public Policy.

Responsibilities include

  • Supporting communication with other project partners
  • Assisting in the organization of events; e.g., Challenges with artists (incl. conceptualization, logistics, scheduling, communication)
  • Assisting in the formulation of modules in QuantWorld’s online learning platform
  • Participating in the biweekly meetings at the TUM Think Tank and other project-related events; e.g., the Challenges with artists

Your profile

  • You are enrolled in a Master’s program in social sciences (e.g., STS, RESET, Sociology, Philosophy, Political Science, Media Studies, or related fields)
  • Independent, structured, and reliable working style
  • Excellent command of English
  • Some experience with event organization or public engagement (not required but a plus)

What is offered?

  • Join a dynamic project at the intersection of quantum science and technology, STS, and Governance
  • Work within an interdisciplinary environment at the TUM Think Tank
  • Gain insights into current debates around second-generation quantum technology governance
  • Opportunities to strengthen skills in event organization, science communication, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and project coordination
  • Opportunity to integrate the work into your academic studies (e.g., as an MA thesis)

Application

The Technical University of Munich is committed to promoting diversity in research and teaching and particularly encourages applications from women, non-binary individuals, and people from underrepresented backgrounds. Applicants with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in cases of equal qualification.
