Job Description
We are seeking a
Data Governance & Architecture Manager (m/f/d)
to join our Process and Data Management team, either full-time or part-time.
Individuals with severe disabilities will be given priority for the vacant internal positions, provided they are equally qualified.
Exciting tasks with us:
- Designing a company-wide data strategy: You will develop a structured overall concept for how data can be effectively organized, utilized, and developed further in the long term within the company – with a focus on transparency, efficiency, and sustainability. You will consider both business goals and technological developments.
- Establishing standards and guidelines: You define clear rules for handling data—e.g., how data should be named, documented, classified, and maintained—to create a consistent, high-quality database. For this purpose, you establish, for example, a company-wide data quality framework.
- Designing data governance: You will actively shape the establishment of roles, responsibilities, and processes related to data—for example, determining who is responsible for which data and how access is regulated. In a further development phase, you will introduce monitoring and reporting of governance KPIs and develop a data ownership model.
- Interface between business and technology: You work closely with IT, data engineers, and the business departments to ensure that the data architecture meets both technical requirements and business needs. You translate business requirements into technical concepts.
- Support in technology selection: You evaluate and recommend suitable tools and platforms for data management in collaboration with IT – always with an eye on scalability, security, and integration into existing systems. You support proof-of-concepts and tool evaluations.
- Transparent documentation: You ensure that the structure, origin, and use of data are clearly documented—e.g., by creating a data catalog or metadata repositories. This is an important foundation for trust, efficiency, and compliance.
- Consulting on data protection and compliance: You ensure that data handling complies with legal requirements (e.g., GDPR) and support the implementation of appropriate measures – in close coordination with data protection officers and legal departments.
- Participation in data architecture: You will actively contribute to the further development of the data architecture – for example, in the definition of data models, interfaces, and integration strategies. You will work on the harmonization of data sources and support the implementation of data mesh concepts.
This makes it a perfect career match:
- You have a degree in business informatics, data management, information science or a comparable qualification
- You have several years of professional experience in data management, ideally in setting up data infrastructure and governance structures
- In addition, you have experience in dealing with regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR), data quality management and metadata management, ideally in the insurance or financial environment
- Your work is based on a sound understanding of data governance frameworks, data architecture principles and data strategies
- You have practical knowledge of data modeling, data catalogs, data lineage, master data management, and data stewardship, and you have also gained practical experience in using relevant tools and data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, MS-Fabric).
- You are interested in current trends such as artificial intelligence, data mesh, cloud technologies and automation possibilities and have been able to build a basic technical understanding
- You want to actively develop and shape data management at NÜRNBERGER, bringing with you a high degree of personal responsibility, creative drive and a strong hands-on mentality
- You are able to understand complex relationships, abstract them and translate them into a strategy with concrete measures
- Your profile is rounded off by strong communication skills as well as moderation and teamwork skills
We have a lot to offer:
- You can easily achieve a good work-life balance with our flextime model. Sabbaticals are also possible.
- Work flexibly and mobile: You can choose to work from home, on the go, or in the office for up to 60% of your working time. You'll generally be on-site with us 40% of the time. We'll provide financial support for your home's technical equipment.
