The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week (100%). The position is classified within remuneration group 13 of the collective wage agreement among the German federal states ("Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst der Länder" - TV-L). The fixed term of employment is in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the German Act on Fixed-Term Employment Contracts in Science and Academia (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz or WissZeitVG). If necessary, an extension of up to three years is possible if personal and legal requirements are met.

Your Field of Work:

Our goal in SUBMERGE is a better understanding of the eruptive activity of the geysers in Iceland, their internal structure and external factors that affect the geysering cycles.
The project will focus at Strokkur geyser, Iceland. This project is funded under WEAVE and our Swiss partner at the University of Geneva will image the wider geothermal area around Strokkur to map the underlying magma reservoir and the shallow geothermal system.
Here at the University of Potsdam, we will detect short-term and long-term perturbations of the geyser system.
External drivers to be assessed are earthquakes and the tides, while internal drivers will be assessed based on pressure and temperature loggers inside the conduit and extremely long eruptive cycles.

The Scope of Your Responsibilities:

• Temperature and pressure sensor testing in the lab and in the field o Data processing and interpretation of time series of seismic sensors and pressure-temperature sensors o Conduct independent code development and testing in Python or python-based languages o Joint interpretation of seismological data and tidal or modelling data.
• Prepare presentations for workshops and conferences o Prepare and publish manuscripts and reports in peer-reviewed journals o Collaborate with team members and external partners

  o Mentor and support junior researchers or students o Assist with project management tasks Further academic qualification (post-doctoral thesis (Habilitation)) is possible.
  At least onethird of working hours is available for in-depth academic work.

Your Qualifications:

• Master’s and PhD degree or equivalent in physics, mathematics or related fields o Proven research experience e.g. through peer-review publications o Excellent written and spoken English skills o Ability to work independently and collaboratively .g., Git) o Presentation and communication skills
