The Financial Management Division at the Minnesota Department of Health is looking for an enthusiastic person to join the Accounts Payable team. This position will perform various technical accounting services necessary for successful MN Department of Health (MDH) financial operations, including but not limited to auditing and processing of accounts payable.

Working as an Accounting Technician you will:
  • Effectively prepare, process, audit and authorize the payment of invoices and monthly reports.
  • Identify and support process improvements.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

This position will have the option of teleworking; however, employees will be required to work in the primary work location of St. Paul at least 50% of days worked each month as required by Statewide HR/LR #1422 Telework Policy and will also be based on the business needs of the unit and is at supervisory discretion.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

One (1) year of clerical experience performing accounts payable functions in a business/finance/accounting setting. This experience must include the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
  • Knowledge of an accounting system sufficient to query and compile records and reports as well as process invoice payments.
  • Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing software, computers and other office equipment such as calculators.
  • Mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts.

A degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field will substistute as follows:
  • Bachelor's Degree - 12 months of Experience
  • Associate's degree - 6 months of Experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Business, Accounting or an Accounting related field.
  • Experience with EIOR procurement and accounts payable systems.
  • Experience compiling and reviewing monthly reports for outstanding invoice follow up.
  • Experience working in Minnesota's Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT).
  • Experience with state or federal contract laws, policies and procedures.
