About us
Esperanza United mobilizes Latinas and Latin@ communities to end domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. Formerly Casa de Esperanza, Esperanza United was founded in 1982 by a small group of persevering Latinas as an emergency shelter in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Position overview
The Advancement Manager will join the Advancement team, reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, and play a key role in inspiring a community of supporters and engaged individuals to unite in Esperanza United’s mission. They will cultivate meaningful pathways to maximize investment in the organization’s vision of a world free of violence, while planning and implementing a comprehensive development and fundraising program to ensure long-term financial sustainability.
Essential job functions and responsibilities
Annual fund and monthly giving programs
•Develop and manage a comprehensive annual giving strategy, including planning and executing direct mail, email, and digital campaigns to acquire, retain, and upgrade donors
•Build a vibrant monthly giving program, ensuring consistent and sustained support for Esperanza United's mission
•Collaborate with the Chief Advancement Officer to set goals, track metrics, and report on outcomes related to donor engagement and retention
•Coordinate online giving initiatives, including Give to the Max, International Women’s Day, and other crowdfunding campaigns, to drive new donor acquisition and retention
•Prepare donor materials and coordinate donor stewardship activities, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction
•Collaborate with the Communications team on writing copy and editing proofs. Work with vendors to execute effective external communications
•Work with program staff to gather program data, outcomes, and stories that support grant narratives and donor communications
•Maximize public awareness of Esperanza United’s mission and the work nationally
Community engagement and donor relations
•Build authentic relationships with donors, ensuring they feel connected to Esperanza United’s mission and impact
•Represent the organization at community events, funder meetings, and other engagements to share our mission and foster relationships with stakeholders
•Collaborate with the Communications team to create culturally resonant, donor-focused content that amplifies the voices of the Latin@ community
•Collaborate with Special Projects Manager to plan and execute events
Team collaboration
•Work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer to align all fundraising efforts with organizational goals and values
•Assist in creating budgets and forecasts for fundraising campaigns and grant applications
•Mentor and inspire team members, volunteers, and stakeholders to champion fundraising efforts
Qualifications
Required
•Proven experience in annual fund development, including successful donor acquisition and retention strategies. Minimum of three years of progressive professional experience. Relevant sales, journalism, public relations, or nonprofit management experience with demonstrated success in meeting revenue goals also qualify
•At least one year of grant writing and management experience with a track record of securing funding
•Ability to make independent decisions that impact fundraising efforts
•Commitment to Esperanza United's mission and values
•Passion for human rights, social justice, and feminist values, particularly as they relate to ending violence.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives
•Excellent judgment and sensitivity to interpersonal and organizational dynamics
•Demonstrated ability to work successfully with high level individuals, including board members and volunteers
•Strong project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred
•Bilingual (English/Spanish) written and verbal with the ability to present in both languages
•Knowledge of and experience working with Latin@ communities
•Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
•Experience with donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Bloomerang, or similar CRM)
•Familiarity with culturally specific approaches and the nonprofit funding landscape
•Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for events
