Walker West Music Academy is a vibrant music school for students of all ages, from 5-year-olds to adults. We offer affordable, accessible, high-quality instruction in all genres of music with a special emphasis on jazz, gospel, and improvisational music. Founded by African American musicians, Walker West is believed to be the oldest community music school of its kind in the nation. Wages and Benefits
$23.00 per hour; Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) as legally required.
Schedule
This is a regular, part-time position that will work 15 hours per week Monday-Thursday from 5PM-8PM, and/or weekend hours as needed.
A Typical Day in the Life…
A typical day as Walker West’s Student Services Coordinator provides an opportunity to assist with day-to-day management of students’ affairs and will be the first point of contact for all families and guests entering the building. Responsibilities will include the following:
- Monitoring building entry and greeting all students, families, and guests, including managing sign-ins.
- Addressing basic facility needs in the lobby and student services office (not including janitorial services).
- Maintaining an organized front desk with readily available registration, program, and marketing materials.
- Providing comprehensive information about programs, registration, scheduling, and special events to in-person visitors and callers.
- Managing phone communication, including answering calls and checking messages promptly.
- Creating and maintaining accurate student files.
- Coordinating lesson schedules between families and teachers efficiently.
- Processing and posting tuition payments.
- Tracking student daily attendance.
- Coordinating and scheduling make-up lessons.
- Communicating all schedule changes to parents, students, faculty, and staff in a timely manner via phone and/or email.
- Assisting with event set-up and tear-down, as needed.
Who You Are
- You have a high school diploma, GED, or associate’s degree; or you have 1-3 years of relevant experience in a receptionist, administrative, or customer services role or demonstrate any equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
- It is preferred if you have previous experience handling payments or basic bookkeeping, scheduling, and managing customer inquiries.
- You have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- You have strong organizational skills.
- You are proficient with computers, including Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Meet) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- You have experience with databases or CRM software.
- You demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
- You demonstrate a proactive and independent work ethic.
- You have a customer-focused attitude and strong problem-solving skills.
