Acara Solutions is seeking highly qualified candidates to work Onsite with our client in St. Thomas, ON. Interested?
Here's what you'd do:
- The General Machinist/ Toolmaker is responsible setting up, programming, and operating CNC machines to perform various tasks such as drilling, milling, and turning.
- This role needs a combination of technical skills, precision, and problem-solving abilities to ensure that products meet quality standards and specifications.
- Our capabilities include: CNC machining, precision grinding, manual turning and milling, plus a full inspection service.
- Use of various equipment/tools to create and repair tooling, including, but not limited to, grinders, welding equipment, machining equipment, overhead cranes,
- Prepare and load/set up the raw material or die sections in the machine
- Program/Run CNC code from provided CAD data using Mastercam
- Interact with CAD specialist/Toolmakers to refurbish/improve/build spares
- Maintain equipment by completing PMs and calling for repair if needed
- Manufacture, modify and repair precision tools, jigs, fixtures according to specifications, blueprints and technical drawings.
- Measuring tools and instruments, such as micrometers, verniers, callipers, height gauges or other specialized measuring instruments

- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 2 years of experience in precision machining
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in a custom machining shop
- Minimum 2 years of experience with 3/5 axis CNC operation and programming
- Minimum 2 years of experience in SolidWorks, Mastercam or Edgecam and AutoCAD software
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Okuma, Siemens and Heidenheim CNC controls
- Minimum 2 years of experience in CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with 3, 4 and 5-Axis CNC machines
- Minimum 2 years of experience with Lathe
- Licensed Machinist or Tool and Die Maker
- Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, and is skilled at interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex mechanical and operational issues.
- Proficient reading blueprints and sketches
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
