Student Assistant / Research Assistant (m/f/d) - Support in Qualitative Analysis, Collection of Open Educational Resources, and Workshop Preparation
Within the initiative "Integrative Taxonomy" of the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, the Center for Biodiversity and Integrative Taxonomy (KomBioTa) is a joint initiative of the University of Hohenheim and the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart. We are a research and communication network of over 130 scientists, supported by a coordinating team. Since January 2024, KomBioTa has been coordinating a three-year project entitled "Education and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS): enable society to bend the curve for biodiversity" (acronym: eNaBlS, funded by the European Commission). The project aims to integrate biodiversity and NBS into the curricula of European higher education as well as technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions.
To support our activities, we are looking for 1 to 2 student/research assistants (HiWi).
Scope & Duration
• Scope: 20 to 40 hours per month per position
• Timing: Flexible working hours by arrangement
• Preferred start date: as soon as possible
• Employment duration: 6 months with possible extension
Your Tasks
Applicants may support one, two or all of the following areas:
Area A: Qualitative Analysis Support
- Organising and structuring documents and document groups as well as importing and organising qualitative material (e.g. logbooks and related project documents) in MAXQDA
- Applying an existing coding scheme / codebook consistently and reliably to new material in MAXQDA (coding relevant text passages carefully)
- Retrieving and exporting coded segments, code summaries, and simple overviews from MAXQDA and drafting English bullet-point summaries based on coded material
- Maintaining a transparent coding log of completed tasks, decisions, and open issues
Area B: Collection of Open Educational Resources on Nature-Based Solutions for Education
- Online research on open educational resources related to Nature-Based Solutions
- Collection of those resources in an excel sheet
- Prepare the table for publication on an online repository
Area C: Workshop Preparation, Coordination, and Documentation
- Arranging workshop materials (e.g. agenda, participant lists, sign-in sheets, name tags, handouts, slides) and supporting the preparation of background materials for participants
- Maintaining registration, participant, and follow-up lists in Excel and documenting responses
- Assisting with practical organisational tasks related to room set-up, hybrid-format support, simple catering coordination, and general workshop logistics
- Supporting the workshop on the day itself through participant check-in, timekeeping, note-taking, and safeguarding raw notes and materials
- Organising and consolidating workshop notes, photos of working materials, and rough outputs immediately after the event
You are a good fit if you
- are enrolled in a Master's or advanced Bachelor's programme in sustainability, environmental studies, education, social sciences, geography, communication, or a related field,
- have knowledge of qualitative content analysis or other qualitative approaches and experience with qualitative coding in MAXQDA (preferred) or comparable software (NVivo, Atlas.ti)
- are confident working with Excel (e.g. sorting, filtering, simple formulas, tables),
- have experience in supporting workshops, meetings, events, or project-related coordination tasks
- have a reliable and responsible working style, including following through on assigned tasks,
- can summarise information clearly, accurately, and concisely,
- have a collaborative, communicative mindset and strong team spirit,
- have a good command of English (reading and writing); German is an asset.
