Job Description
Location:Essen or Teltow |Start date:Immediately |Working hours:40 hours/week |Hybrid
As a European energy scale-up, we are driving forward the algorithm-based optimization of electricity flexibilities, thereby enabling the deeper integration of renewable energies into energy markets.
Our mission is to create measurable economic and systemic impact through data, intelligent optimization models, and technological excellence.
Your role: Data Scientist Optimization
In this role, you will be responsible for the further development and operational application of our optimization algorithms in the complex interplay between electricity trading and balancing energy markets.
You will combine mathematical modeling, energy economics expertise, and sound software implementation – thereby directly contributing to value creation for our customers and the scaling of our business model.
- Optimization models & algorithms:
You will maintain and further develop our algorithms for cross-market optimization and adapt them to different plant configurations and market requirements. - Bidding strategies & market logic:
You design and implement bidding strategies for balancing energy markets, taking into account collateral and restriction criteria. - Performance & Model Quality:
You analyze the performance of our optimization models as well as the quality of underlying forecasts and derive targeted improvements. - Interface to business & trade:
In close cooperation with sales and dealers, you translate technical model logic into economically sound revenue forecasts and agreed-upon plant restrictions. - Scalable processes & systems:
Together with the development team, you will build a robust, maintainable and scalable process and system landscape for the operational use of our optimization.
- Academic background:
Completed studies (Master's or equivalent) inmathematics, business mathematics, computer science, data science, industrial engineering, physicsor a comparable quantitative discipline with a strong focus on optimization, statistics or algorithmic modeling. - Optimization expertise:
Several years of practical experience in the development of optimization models, especially in mixed-integer optimization (MILP). - Programming & Tools:
Excellent Python skills, ideally with pyomo or linopy, as well as pandas and FastAPI. Knowledge of C# is a plus. - Software engineering practice:
Safe handling of version control (e.g. Git), containerized applications and orchestration environments. - Analytical thinking:
Structured, solution-oriented working style and the ability to precisely analyze and abstract complex issues. - Communication & Teamwork:
You can explain technical content in an understandable way, enjoy working in an interdisciplinary manner, and see yourself as an active part of a team. - Languages:
German and English at a negotiation/professional level, both spoken and written.
Nice to have
- Experience with machine learning methods
- Basic understanding of energy industry processes (not a must, but a clear advantage)
We offer challenging and exciting work in a company committed to sustainability and energy flexibility. Our goal is to actively shape the energy transition together with YOU.
Furthermore, you can look forward to:
- A competitive salary package and 30 days of paid vacation.
- Motivated and team-oriented colleagues: You will work with a team of individual talents who positively influence the company's success every day.
- An innovative and dynamic environment that contributes to shaping a sustainable energy transition
- Development opportunities and training programs individually tailored to you
- Great working environment with genuine flexibility regarding workplace (home office / mobile work) and working hours.
- Modern, technical equipment and a collaborative atmosphere to develop creative solutions together.
- Depending on your employment model, you may be eligible for a company bike or a job ticket. This allows you to be mobile and travel sustainably from A to B.
- In our modern office in Essen or Berlin, you can expect a well-equipped workplace as well as free drinks (coffee, tea, water) and fresh fruit for your vitamin intake.
- Short communication channels and flat hierarchies encourage active and innovative participation in shaping the company's success.
