The Controller will be responsible for the integrity of all financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance while providing strategic financial insights to the senior management team. The Controller is crucial in ensuring that the organization’s financial operations are conducted in alignment with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and non-profit accounting standards and committed to providing services in a manner that reflects Living Well Disability Services’ mission, vision, and values.
Job Duties and Expectations
Essential Job Functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act and ADA Amendments Act
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
- Develop and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring that they are timely and accurate.
- Monitor cash flow, forecast revenue and expenses, and report on financial performance to the leadership team.
- Coordinate the annual audit process, liaise with auditors, and implement any necessary recommendations.
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
- Establish, implement, and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Monitor the adherence to financial policies, recommending improvements or changes as necessary.
Staff Supervision & Development:
- Supervise and mentor a team of three accounting professionals: Accounts Payable Specialist, Accounts Receivable Specialist, and General Accountant.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment while ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.
- Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to staff to ensure a high level of performance and adherence to best practices.
Budgeting & Financial Planning:
- Work closely with the CFO and senior leadership to prepare and manage the annual budget, tracking progress and recommending adjustments as necessary.
- Assist in the development of financial forecasts and long-term strategic financial plans to support the organization's growth and mission.
Ad Hoc Reporting & Financial Strategy:
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations for strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Support the CFO and leadership team with special projects and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Education and Certification:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Experience working in a non-profit organization is highly preferred.
- Expertise in generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and non-profit accounting standards.
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong knowledge of accounting software and financial management systems; experience with Solomon and Business Central a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Passion for the mission of Living Well Disability Services and a commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities.
Other Requirements:
- Individual is required to have a valid Minnesota Driver’s License and the ability to be deemed eligible to drive by the Living Well Disability Services insurance carrier
- Individual is required to be able to pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Study.
