The Institute for Applied Construction Research (IAB) Weimar is one of the leading industry-oriented research institutes in Thuringia, Germany. For over 30 years, we have been developing innovative equipment, processes, and materials for the construction sector in collaboration with partners from industry and academia. More than 120 employees work with us on practical solutions that help shape the construction world of tomorrow.
To further strengthen our expertise in Sustainable Construction Materials, we are seeking a dedicated professional with a focus on earthen building materials and earthen construction techniques. This role offers the opportunity to independently develop and advance this field while actively representing it externally. We are looking for proactive team members who take responsibility, generate innovative solutions, and contribute to shaping a sustainable future in construction.
- Research and development of sustainable construction materials, with a focus on earthen building materials, earthen construction techniques, and clay-based systems
- Initiation and independent development of new research topics in earthen construction
- Generation of innovative ideas and solutions for industrial applications and construction practice
- Preparation and co-development of project proposals (national and international)
- Practical work in the laboratory and technical center, as well as implementation in pilot plants and field trials
- Scientific handling of service, research, and development projects
- Active representation of the field externally, including partners, clients, expert committees, and stakeholders
- Collaboration with project partners from industry, public institutions, and research organizations
- University degree with a focus on materials science or construction materials (e.g., silicate technology, civil engineering, materials science, chemistry, process engineering, or similar)
- High willingness to engage with diverse and evolving topics
- Strong interest in ecological construction materials, circular economy approaches, and traditional as well as modern earthen construction methods
- Practical experience in material development, testing, production, earthen construction, or related fields is desirable
- Strong ability for independent and creative work, with an interest in developing new research fields
- Excellent German language skills (native speaker or at least B2) and English skills (minimum B1), both written and spoken
- Good teamwork and communication skills, confident in MS Office
- Class B driving license
