The Institute for Applied Building Research (IAB) Weimar is one of the leading industry-oriented research institutes in Thuringia. For more than 30 years, we have been developing innovative devices, processes, and materials for the construction industry in collaboration with partners from industry and academia. More than 120 employees work with us on practical solutions that shape the construction world of tomorrow.
To further strengthen our expertise in the field of Sustainable Construction Materials and Geotechnics, we are looking for a dedicated professional with a focus on soil mechanics, geotechnical materials, and ground improvement methods to independently expand and advance this area of competence. We are seeking team members who take responsibility, proactively shape projects, develop innovative solutions, and represent this forward-looking field externally with confidence.
- Research and development in geotechnics, particularly soil mechanics, ground improvement, and geotechnical materials
- Initiation and independent development of new research topics in the geotechnical field
- Generation of innovative ideas and technically-scientific solutions for geotechnical applications and construction practice
- Preparation and co-development of project proposals (national and international)
- Execution of practical laboratory and field tests (e.g., soil mechanical tests, compaction tests, in-situ testing methods)
- Scientific handling of service, research, and development projects
- Active representation of the field externally, e.g., to partners, clients, expert committees, and customers
- Collaboration with project partners from industry, public institutions, and research organizations
- Successfully completed university degree in geotechnics, civil engineering, soil mechanics, engineering geology, or a related field
- High willingness to engage with various geotechnical topics
- Strong interest in sustainable construction materials, soil improvement methods, ground innovations, and circular economy approaches in civil engineering
- Practical experience in soil mechanics, geotechnics, site investigation, laboratory and field testing, or related areas is desirable
- Strong ability for independent and creative scientific work, with an interest in developing new research fields
- Excellent German language skills (native speaker or at least B2) and English skills (minimum B1) in speaking and writing
- Good team and communication skills as well as confident use of MS Office
- Class B driving license
