Job Overview
The Head of Engineering (m/w/x) will lead our 18-person Product Engineering team and report directly to the CEO. This role is responsible for aligning the technical vision, supporting the teams growth and decisions, and ensuring the successful development of our small satellite propulsion systems. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a regulated industry, with specific knowledge of hardware systems and a proven track record of leading engineering teams through complex technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision- Develop and drive the technical strategy for our propulsion systems in alignment with company goals
- Support critical product roadmap decisions, including resource allocation and prioritization
- Facilitate technical engineering decisions in alignment with Business strategy
- Bridge the gap between technical teams and executive leadership
- Advocate for engineering resource needs and represent team interests at the C-level
- Represent engineering in cross-departmental planning and decision-making
Team Leadership & Development
- Directly manage individuals while establishing a scalable leadership structure
- Build and maintain a high-performing engineering culture focused on excellence and accountability
- Implement effective performance management practices with clear goals and regular feedback
- Mentor and develop engineering talent across electrical, mechanical, test, systems, and embedded software disciplines
- Foster a culture of documentation and knowledge sharing
Technical Oversight
- Oversee the technical direction of the propulsion systems development
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements in the space industry
- Address complex technical challenges across multiple engineering disciplines
- Establish and maintain technical documentation standards
Process Improvement
- Evaluate and refine engineering processes for maximum efficiency and quality
- Implement effective project management approaches appropriate for space hardware development
- Establish clear documentation practices and configuration management systems
Type of contract: Full time position with 38.5 hours/week
Salary: The minimum base monthly salary for this position starts at EUR 4.204,70 gross per month, with a planned payment of 6000-6800 depending on your professional experience and qualifications.
Your profile
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; Or Bachelors with additional equivalent working experience
- 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles
- Track record of successfully leading engineering teams through complex technical challenges
- Experience working with regulatory bodies
- Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and product lifecycle management
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience establishing and scaling engineering teams during company growth
