Über diesen Job
As Austria's largest research and technology organisation for applied research, we are dedicated to make substantial contributions to solving the major challenges of our time, climate change and digitalisation. To achieve our goals, we rely on our specific research, development and technology competencies, which are the basis of our commitment to excellence in all areas. With our open culture of innovation and our motivated, international teams, we are working to position AIT as Austria's leading research institution at the highest international level and to make a positive contribution to the economy and society.
Our Center for Vision, Automation & Control located in Vienna invites applications for a Master Thesis. At the Center for Vision, Automation & Control our research unit "Complex Dynamical Systems”focuses its research on modelling, simulation, analysis and optimisation, as well as on the control of complex and dynamical industrial systems and processes. The primary goal is to enhance product quality, increase flexibility, and boost resource efficiency. Applications are found in the fields of mechatronics, robotics, and industrial production facilities.
The Master Thesis is part of the lighthouse project AI Enabled Sustainable Automation, where new methods and technologies are developed to enable zero-defect manufacturing in high-pressure die-casting. A dosing unit provides molten metal to the shot sleeve of a die-casting machine. A piston transports the molten metal into the mould, while a temperature control unit continuously controls its temperature. In the tempered mould, the solidification of the metal occurs. All these processes have an impact on the quality of the die-cast part and the efficiency of the die-casting process. In this Master Thesis, we are conducting research on modelling and control of the die-casting process with the aim of increasing product quality and resource efficiency.
Master Thesis "Modelling and Control of a High-Pressure Die-Casting Machine”
CENTER FOR VISION, AUTOMATION & CONTROL
- The main goal of this master’s thesis is to develop a model-based controller (e.g. ILC) for the die-casting machine.
- Under the guidance of your interdisciplinary team, you will carry out a literature search, extend our existing mathematical model of the die-casting machineand develop a smart controller (e.g. ILC).
- You will implement the model and controller in MATLAB / Python.
- You will analyse multimodal data from a real production, parametrise unknown model parameters and validate your results.
- You will accumulate experience in a research field, that deals with the triple transition
- You will gain experience in a group of international engineers and scientists, and you have the opportunity to build up your professional network.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- Ongoing master's studies in the field of Automation & Control, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or Mathematics
- Excellent programming skills in MATLAB and/or Python
- Excellent technical understanding & analytical capabilities
- Enjoyment of application-oriented questions of industry
- High level of commitment and team spirit
- Good knowledge of German and/or English in word and writing
What to expect:
- Duration of the master’s thesis project: 6 months
- Start date: as soon as possible
- EUR 603,04 gross per month for 12 hours/week based on the collective agreement. As a research institution, we are familiar with the supervision and execution of master theses, and we are looking forward to supporting you accordingly!
At AIT diversity and inclusion are of great importance. This is why we strive to inspire women to join our teams in the field of technology. We welcome applications from women, who will be given preference in case of equal qualifications after taking into account all relevant facts and circumstances of all applications.
