The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies is currently seeking a
Postgraduate Research Associate
Extent of employment: | 30 hours per week |
1st of September 2025, limited to 31st of August 2026 (with option for temporary extension)
Workplace: | 1190 Vienna, Muthgasse 18 |
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: | B1 |
Gross monthly salary: | (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.786,10 (payable 14 times per year) |
Responsibilities
- Development of hMSC-based xeno-free 3D chondrogenic tissue constructs
- Development of a culturing platform for the determination of metabolic analytes in chondrogenesis
- Operation of bioreactors in continuous/perfusion mode
- Coordination of research tasks and logistics with collaboration partners
- Establishment of novel functional assays (histology, protein quantification, immuno-histochemistry)
- Independent planning, execution and evaluation of experiments and data
- Presentation of results in the form of reports, publications and presentations
- Involvement in teaching (material preparation, support with preparation and performance of practical courses) as well as supervision of students
- Contribution (e.g., literature research) within context of scientific publications
Required skills and qualifications
- Diploma degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedicine, Life Science or other equivalent university degree
- Language skills: fluent in English (mandatory), fluent in German would be advantageous
- Previous experience in Tissue Engineering and/or MSC chondrogenesis
Desirable skills and qualifications
- Strong interest and motivation for tackling Bioengineering and Tissue Engineering questions
- Experience and proficiency working with primary human stem cells and hydrogels, 3D culture
- Experience working with bioreactors and monitoring beneficial
- Motivation and curiosity for development and validation of novel techniques
- Analytical mindset and the ability to interpret complex data as well present
- Desire to work in an international and collaborative team
- Creativity and ability to work independently
- Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English, German skills advantageous
- Team spirit
