AI:AT - the AI Factory Austria - is making Austria a hotspot for Artificial Intelligence in Europe.
AI:AT is a joint project of AIT and Advanced Computing Austria . It brings together top-level expertise in high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and data ecosystems, creating an interdisciplinary innovation environment for research, development, start-ups, and industrial projects.
AI:AT - the AI Factory Austria - provides access to cutting-edge AI infrastructure, promotes trustworthy AI and ethical standards, and serves as a hub for networking with national and European partners. The goal is to work with partners from industry and public institutions to develop and implement forward-looking AI technologies and viable AI solutions.
As part of the collaboration within the AI Factory Austria, the Advanced Computing Austria will delegate experts to the AI Factory Austria.
To lead AI:AT - comprising several subject matter experts and operational support units - at our location in Vienna , we are seeking a:
AI:AT - AI Factory Austria
- You will be part of our AI Factory Austria Supercomputing infrastructure project, the largest national and EU project aimed to equip our supercomputers with the hardware and software stack for supporting cutting edge AI workloads .
- You will build one of the most capable and automated B2B AI compute stacks in Austria and Europe.
- You will support our AI training activities for startups and academia by contributing to the ideation, design, and execution of training sessions focused on using our ML infrastructure.
Your qualifications:
- 5-7 years of industry experience in the field of Data or AI infrastructure and software services and tools
- Solid working experience with one or more of: the Databricks stack, Hive, Spark operations and management, Apache Beam, TensorFlow Extended, ML metadata, or MLflow
- Working knowledge and hands on experience with any distributed schedulers, such as Metaflow, Airflow, Prefect, Celery, etc. is highly beneficial
- High proficiency in development of scalable and distributed systems, (micro)services development with Java, SpringBoot, Python and/or Scala. Kubernetes and/or other Container Orchestration Engine experience is a big plus
- Experience in Data Platform development, using S3, Hive Metadata, or experience in developing Data Lake and Data Lakehouse solutions, as well as efficient data formats for batch processing
- Familiarity with the internals and usage of inference systems serving classic AI models as well as novel transformer- based language model architectures: Tf Serving, Triton, Seldon, ONNX Servers, VLLM etc.
- Good knowledge of Object Storage principles, as well as Database (SQL and NoSQL) (i.e. Postgres, Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB, DynamoDB etc.) internals and operations for fast serving of data to models in low latency.
- Ideally, you also have had exposure to modeling and to the full AI application development lifecycle in production, such as for recommender and/or search system design and operations at scale.
- Some familiarity with usage of Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and NLP packages is a plus.
- Some familiarity/ exposure to ML testing concepts and tooling, as well as with ML visualization packages such as Seaborn, Matplotlib, Bokeh, etc.
- Proficiency and understanding of distributed compute tools like Spark, Dask or Ray is also a plus. Ideally you have worked and designed ML applications end-to-end in production settings, for e.g. in search and retrieval applications.
- You are a self-starter and can work independently with limited supervision
- You should be eligible for working in Austria.

- The annual gross salary starts at EUR 66.598,-- according to the collective agreement for non-university research. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans.
- The position is funded by the AI Factory Austria until June 2028. An extension beyond this period may be possible depending on future project developments.
