Our Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna . Our Competence Unit for Cooperative Digital Technologies is leading in applied research on the development of data-based IT solutions for various application scenarios, including the design of new and innovative solutions supporting communities in increasing their resilience and achieving their sustainable development goals (SDG). As a reliable partner of industry and public authorities, we work on digital tools for a sustainable and resilient society based on current research results and in collaboration with end users and our customers. The focus of our applications is on the protection of society during crises and disasters as well as climate change impact assessment.

Our Responsive Sensing and Analytics team specialises in developing efficient and scalable algorithms designed to equip emergency services with critical safety information and analytical insights. Leveraging sensor and IoT systems deployed on unmanned robots and drones, these algorithms are tailored for rapid response scenarios, such as the release of biological, chemical, or radiological hazardous substances (CBRN) during disasters. Furthermore, our research streamlines data exchange by advancing semantic and cross-domain interoperability, enabling clear communication between machines and people.

Software Developer (f/m/d) for the Development of Real-Time Situational Awareness Systems

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • As part of our interdisciplinary team, you develop efficient and scalable algorithms for the entire processing chain - from data acquisition (various sensors e.g. CBRN) in combination with optical 2D / 3D images to analysis and information extraction for data distribution to national and international stakeholders.
  • You work on the development of applications, systems, algorithms and digitalization concepts for efficient solutions for operation management information systems (C2).
  • You use the latest sensor technologies with different modalities and improve the situational awareness of emergency services and decision-makers through analysis and data fusion.
  • You use your analytical skills to design new solutions in the field of real-time data and signal processing using state-of-the-art technologies that prove themselves in practice.


  • You use your knowledge of algorithm and software developmen t to implement interactive information systems with graphic visualizations .
  • You are a reliable contact person for both our industry and project partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Your innovative solutions are geared towards user requirements and are characterized by technological and scientific excellence.
  • You actively pass on your knowledge to colleagues, support the students in our unit, and network with the national and international community.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed university degree, preferably in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics or similar (minimum BSc. degree)
  • Good programming skills in Object Oriented Programming; Functional Programming and scripting languages are an advantage
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and API development, and/or database systems, and/or frontend development, and/or software development tools such as ROS, Docker, versioning tools (Git), CI/CD is a plus
  • Interest in the area of IoT systems (Cloud, Edge, and Fog) and System of Systems (SoS)
  • Interest in data analytics, data fusion, machine learning and the design of complex algorithms is an advantage
  • Special interest in applied research and solving practical problems
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility and commitment
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English

What to expect:

The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 59.934,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
