About

The IHS - Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna is a leading non-university research institute that creates empirically based knowledge on significant economic and social challenges of our time. It delivers excellent applied basic research and impartial scientific policy advice, combining economic and social science perspectives. The IHS is seeking to fill the following position in the Research Group " Business Cycles, Growth and Public Finances "

Your tasks

Monitoring, analyzing, and forecasting macroeconomic developments are core tasks of IHS. The necessary macroeconomic expertise and modeling infrastructure are housed within the research group Business Cycles, Growth and Public Finances. As a student assistant, you will work closely with the project and research group leaders and provide support in particular through:

  • Collaboration in the preparation of macroeconomic forecasts
  • Continuous updating of data on the national and international economic situation via various data providers/data interfaces
  • Entry of current economic data into existing databases
  • Collaboration on research projects and conducting literature analysis

About you

  • Ongoing studies (preferably at the end of a bachelor's- or beginning of a master's degree) in economics, statistics, or a similar field
  • Good knowledge of the statistical software R for data analysis and statistical modeling is required
  • Accuracy at work, especially with data
  • Ability to present complex content in writing in German and English
  • Very good knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Efficient, independent and team-oriented way of working

Your application

The monthly salary for the advertised position is based on the FWF scheme for student assistants and amounts to € 944.72 gross for a 14-hour week, paid 14 times per year.

The position is to be filled in October 2025 . The initial contract period is 6 months, with the possibility of an extension (a maximum of two years in total).
