Your apprenticeship opportunities at Erdrich:
With us, you can choose between two exciting paths into the world of metalworking:
- Apprenticeship as a metal cutting mechanic (m/f/d) (2 years)
- Apprenticeship as a specialist in metal technology (m/f/d) (3 or 3.5 years)
Both training programs start in September and offer you a solid foundation – from manual work at the workbench to working with state-of-the-art CNC machines.
Our apprenticeship workshop
The new training center is located in the administration building, which was newly constructed in 2025. Here you can expect:
- Manual workstations and modern computer workstations
- A dedicated office for the apprenticeship program
- State-of-the-art CNC machines and robots
Digital learning is a natural part of our program: you will work with tablets and specially developed Erdrich apps. This will ensure that you are well prepared for the working world of tomorrow.
Your mentor
will be there for you throughout your entire apprenticeship. He will guide you step by step through all areas, explain theoretical and practical content, and prepare you optimally for your exams.
Professional school
Your apprenticeship will begin in the first year at the Achern vocational schools. There, you will learn the basics of metalworking together with apprentices from other metalworking professions. Beruflichen Schulen Achern
Starting in the second year of your apprenticeship, you will transfer to the Wolfach technical schools—the technical high school for machinists. Here, you will deepen your knowledge and learn everything there is to know about modern machining at the highest level. Beruflichen Schulen Wolfach
Your apprenticeship
In the first year of your apprenticeship, you will lay the foundation for your career in the metalworking industry.
You will start with the basics of manual machining and then move on to conventional metalworking. By the end of the first year, you will be able to write your first CNC programs and set up machines independently.

Training as a metal cutting mechanic (m/f/d)
As a metal cutting mechanic, you will become a true professional in metalworking. Your tasks are varied and require precision, technical understanding, and manual dexterity.
Contents of the apprenticeship as a metal cutting mechanic:
- Fundamentals of metalworking and manual manufacturing techniques
- Conventional turning, milling, and drilling
- Manufacturing precise components on modern CNC machines (turning, milling)
- Setting up, operating, and programming CNC-controlled machine tools
- Programming and operating industrial robots
- Monitoring manufacturing processes and checking workpieces for dimensional accuracy and quality
- Applying measurement and testing procedures for quality assurance
- Organizing and documenting work processes in compliance with safety and quality standards
- Familiarization with modern manufacturing technologies such as automated manufacturing systems and robotics
- Performing minor maintenance work on machines

Remuneration: In addition to your training allowance, you will receive:
- Monthly: €55 travel allowance

Written (IHK) + Practical in the company
Counts for 60% of the final grade - Special features: The training can be shortened to 3 years if performance is good.

- Machining mechanic on CNC lathes or CNC milling machines in the manufacture of precision parts
- Team leader: Taking on responsibility for a team in production, after gaining relevant professional experience as a machining mechanic
