PhD Student Operating Strategy HV-Batteries (f/m/d)

Job ID: 15825

Work environment

As a doctoral candidate in the field of high-voltage battery systems, we offer you an exciting and challenging range of responsibilities. As part of your dissertation, you will have the opportunity to help advance e-mobility at Volkswagen and deepen your expertise in the future-oriented field of battery technology. You will be working in a young, dynamic environment that takes an interdisciplinary approach to the various physical aspects of an HV battery and operates at the interfaces with components such as the cell or control unit on the one hand, and the overall vehicle environment/HV system on the other hand. The goal of your dissertation will be to design, develop, and validate systemic approaches across these different levels. With a fundamental understanding of technical behavior from battery cell to vehicle, you will be able to conceptualize comprehensive functional architectures for the optimal use of the electrochemical storage system. Potential focus areas may include topics such as state of charge/energy, temperature effects, or battery aging. Help shape the future of electromobility with us – apply now and bring your scientific curiosity into a practical research environment!

Possible Tasks within this Role

  • Conducting a doctoral research project on the topic of "Operation Strategy of HV Battery Systems”
  • Performing literature reviews to assess the current state of research and defining the research gap/objectives of the dissertation
  • Designing, developing, and implementing novel approaches through simulation
  • Planning and executing tests for development and validation purposes
  • Collaborating in a cross-functional working group focused on operation strategies

The final doctoral topic is defined together with the professor. The prerequisite for the cooperation is the confirmation of supervision as well as a confirmed delimitation of topics by the professor of a university or research institution entitled to confer a doctorate.

Qualification requirements

  • Good to very good university degree qualifying for doctoral studies in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge in electrical engineering, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and measuring technology/control systems
  • Experience in modeling techniques and simulation of complex systems
  • Knowledge of battery cells, battery systems, and/or HV systems is desirable
  • Independent and self-responsible working style
  • Strong analytical thinking and abstraction skills
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills (including intercultural competence)
  • German or English language level C1

Keywords

Software, Battery Management System (BMS), Thermal Management, Performance, Mechanics, Measurement Technology, Virtual Methods

What we offer

  • Attractive salary & 30 vacation days (+ 24.12. and 31.12. off)
  • 35-hour week, flexible working hours, remote work
  • Special conditions for the purchase and leasing of vehicles
  • Free seminars on scientific work and interdisciplinary qualifications
  • Participation in the doctoral network for scientific exchange with science representatives and other doctoral candidates within the Volkswagen Group
