HotelCard was founded in 2009 to help Swiss mountain hotels fill rooms during low seasons. Today, our platform attracts over 80,000 Swiss travelers looking for spontaneous getaways, spa weekends, and city escapes. We’re a small but enthusiastic team in Zurich, passionate about tech, travel, and innovation. Our goal is to help hotels market unused rooms while providing members a great variety of cost-effective travel options.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to strengthen our growing team. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with containerization and cloud infrastructure, along with a collaborative attitude, strong analytical skills, and effective communication. Our Kubernetes setup on DigitalOcean is still quite new, so we need someone driven and resourceful to help us build, optimize, and maintain our infrastructure. You will work closely with the Head of Technology and our development team to ensure high availability and streamlined operations.

• Infrastructure Management
• Set up, maintain, and optimize DigitalOcean Kubernetes
• Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform for scalability and reliability.
• Coordinate and integrate Docker containers and images within our CI/CD pipelines.
• System Monitoring & Performance
• Monitor system metrics and logs, proactively identifying performance bottlenecks and security risks.
• Implement best practices for scalability, reliability, and disaster recovery.
• Collaboration & Support
• Collaborate with developers to ensure smooth application deployments and environment consistency.
• Work closely with QA and other team members to troubleshoot issues and maintain uptime.
• Communicate clearly in daily standups (Kanban process) and help keep the entire team updated on infrastructure changes.
• Continuous Improvement
• Research and recommend new tools or processes to improve existing workflows.
• Maintain and refine CI/CD processes to streamline development and deployment cycles.

• Foundational DevOps Skills
• Experience with Kubernetes (preferably DigitalOcean Kubernetes) and container orchestration.
• Proficiency in Docker for containerization.
• Familiarity with Terraform (or a similar IaC tool) for managing cloud infrastructure.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
• Ability to diagnose complex issues quickly and implement effective solutions.
• Attention to detail when designing and maintaining production environments.
• Communication & Teamwork
• Good verbal and written communication for cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders when needed.
• Nice-to-Have
• Exposure to MySQL and Elasticsearch operations in a production environment.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and logging solutions.
• Understanding of security best practices and performance tuning.
