Your tasks

• Assisting in leading the group's research projects, and ensuring that their objectives are achieved and that the work culminates in publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international/national conferences
• Managing data from large multicentre/registry studies, with focus on Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs)
• Analysis of large datasets using statistical and machine learning methods
• Advising and supervising the research assistants of the Spine Research Group in their scientific projects
• Consulting and liaising closely with clinicians of the Spine Center, to assist with and guide their research projects
• Writing scientific papers and grant applications
• Maintaining close contact with the Head of the Spine Research Group (your line manager), the Chair of Research, the Clinical Research Head of the Spine Center to discuss the group’s project portfolio and the aims and topics for new research projects in the interest of the Schulthess Clinic

Your profile

• PhD in a topic relevant to musculoskeletal medicine
• National and ideally international reputation demonstrating expertise, excellence and achievement in your field, with regular presentation at international conferences/meetings, membership of relevant international societies/committees, and production of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Excellent knowledge of all aspects of the clinical research process from planning through to publication, in accordance with Good Clinical Practice procedures
• Knowledge of, and ideally experience in, human orthopaedics research. Direct experience in spine outcomes research is a plus
• Strong analytical skills and sound knowledge of statistical methodology and data science, ideally in relation to health/clinical data, with experience in the management of large datasets and execution of high-end, multivariable statistical analyses
• Familiarity with Python coding, its basic scientific libraries (numpy, scipy, pandas, etc.) and machine learning
• Ability to bring structure to complex problems, extract the key issues, and present data in a clear and concise format that is understandable to all, from the student doctor through to the specialist
• Good organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize day-to-day tasks, meet urgent deadlines and work with a variety of staff and teams
• Excellent English (both spoken and written, especially scientific/medical English)
• German (at least comprehension) or willingness to learn
• Well-developed communication and social skills
• Passionate about research, with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Trustworthiness and integrity
