Actuality Entertainment, a subsidiary of Firstline Security, partnered with its parent company to produce the reality series The Prodigy, Opportunity Knocks. The executive team devised The Prodigy as an innovative and cost-effective means of recruiting top talent for its summer sales initiatives, subsequently initiating Actuality Entertainment as a vehicle for carrying out the project. The premise of the show was to follow contestants through each stage of the summer sales process, from recruitment and training to face-to-face sales. In addition to gaining valuable sales experience and training, the winner of The Prodigy was to receive a new car, $300,000 in cash, and an additional $700,000 to invest in their own business venture. Keeping with the theme of developing young talent, Actuality Entertainment went to Collins College to enlist a field camera crew.
Actuality Entertainment was on-site for each stage of the reality series, collecting more than 80 hours of footage. Filming started at the initial group recruiting sessions and job interviews. Once the candidates were selected, Actuality Entertainment followed contestants during their training and on sales presentations with customers. As with most conventional reality series, the production crew captured film of the contestants’ time in corporate housing and conducted individual interviews throughout the process. Over the course of the reality show, Firstline Security and Actuality Entertainment staged various competitions designed to develop and evaluate the contestants' skills, such as sales presenting and business plan creation. The winner of each of these competitions was determined by a special guest judge, while the grand prize winner was chosen by the Board of Directors at Firstline Security.
The award ceremonies took place in Hawaii, where Jordan Folsom was named the inaugural winner. Due to litigation between Firstline Security and one of its suppliers, The Prodigy was never aired. However, Folsom was awarded the promised new car and $300,000. Actuality Entertainment currently owns the intellectual property rights to the series.
