Cool Kids Learn, Inc., offers after-school, weekend, and summer programs that complement the school day to promote critical thinking, creativity, and a commitment to learning. Begun more than a decade ago by a group of elementary and middle-school educators, Cool Kids Learn, Inc., first provided summer programs to Miami-Dade, Florida, students. Now, as a nonprofit, it serves urban and minority communities in need in seven states.

The leadership team includes President Andrea Kilpatrick and Director of Programming Cutari Copeland. Ms. Kilpatrick has a law degree from Harvard Law School and a Master's in Education from the University of Oxford. Prior to her work with Cool Kids Learn, Inc., she was in charge of the Nonprofit Practice for the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company. Ms. Copeland, who has a Master's in Education from St. Thomas University, was formerly an elementary school educator. She has spent several years creating programs and advising schools on how to engage children in reading.

Cool Kids Learn, Inc., offers four main programs. CKL Academy uses local issues to build math, language arts, and critical-thinking skills. A key component of the program is having students work directly with leaders in the community. One-on-one tutoring through the Steps to Success program is available for K-12 students who need extra help. Decision CKL helps students build the skills to work through complex problems, both academic and personal. For students who are academically advanced, CKL offers Achievers, a summer program aimed at sixth graders. Weekend sessions during the academic year round out the Achievers program, which is especially helpful to parents who might not have the academic training to support their gifted children.
