Mission

"The Anatomy of an Entrepreneur", a report from the Kauffman foundation for entrepreneurship, revealed that the age of a typical founder of a start-up averages to 40 years. A team of researchers of several US universities surveyed 549 company founders of successful businesses in high-growth industries, including aerospace, defense, computing, electronics, and health care. This study was conducted in 2009. Now, two years later, we think it is time for us to change this pattern. An entrepreneur is a radical innovator – someone who breaks the predominant rules of business, as defined by Joseph Schumpeter in 1961. We believe that the new category of entrepreneurs is composed from current students or young talents who all have one thing in common – outstanding commitment to transforming their ideas into ground breaking products. Sounds like you? Then we are curious to hear your story. Our story began in May 2011, when we decided to realize our vision of a start-up that focusses on helping promising start-ups to grow. In this context, we focus on business models that have the following characteristics: - Highly scalable, - Web and/or mobile-driven, - Potential first-mover advantage to be exploited.

In four steps we make ventures work:

1. Kick-off phase: Triggering a start-up always begins with a thorough analysis of the business idea that stands behind it. In several workshops, we define all the components of the product itself, identify stakeholders, calculate possible revenue streams and analyze the cost structure. Based on these brainstorming sessions, we evaluate whether the project fulfills the above stated requirements of scalability and an exploitable first-mover advantage. If the idea turns out to be feasible, we define a concrete action plan including a detailed timeline and major milestones. 2. Business plan and funding: In the second phase of the startup process, we elaborate the business idea and perfect the business plan. Leveraging our network, we find the best way to fund the project and get in touch with possible investors and business angels. Once the business plan is written and funding is secured, it is time to transfer your vision into a real product. 3. Development: Realizing great things together is one of our main credos. Therefore, the development phase is of particular importance. During development, we employ our project management skills as well as our experience in software and mobile application development. From the initial definition of the requrements to the final testing of the developed product, we work together closely as a team, always with the goal of creating an outstanding product in mind. 4. Product launch and marketing: Launching your own product is fantastic. After a tough time of product development and testing, you will start selling your product to customers and receive real feedback. Simultaneously with the product development, a marketing strategy has been crafted, which is finally put into effect. From now on, you will watch your customers closely as they use the product and give feedback in order to gain valuable input for new features.

Team

ventureworks was founded by four students of the University of St. Gallen (HSG). After having conducted several successful IT projects, some of those in close cooperation with partners such as Accenture, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Orange, others within the scope of our own businesses, we are characterized by a strong entrepreneurial mindset along with comprehensive project management experience and extensive technological know-how. Today, we can look back on years of successful teamwork. With our goals of creating new business models and making outstanding products, ventureworks relies on the motivation and the enthusiasm of every individual team member. Ambitious projects can only be realized by a team of entrepreneurs that is hard-working, passionate, persevering, open-minded and absolutely committed to success. In order to further extend our reach, tackling new, exciting projects, we are currently looking for entrepreneurs who want to kickstart their own web/mobile start-up in an inspiring environment.
