Responsibilities: Development of a new experimental method, near ambient pressure x-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (AP-XPS) using a laboratory x-ray source, and application of this method for the study of interface processes in the fields of catalysis and biofunctionalized surfaces.

Responsibilities: Operation of a service laboratory for x-ray fluorescence (XRF) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Development of a reliable method for the XRF measurement of small sample quantities. Participation in the set-up of this laboratory.

Responsibilities: Maintenance of the double crystal monochromator (DCM) beamline, its solid-state absorption chamber, and its detectors. Instructing users in the operation of the beamline and helping them with experiments and data analysis. Training new staff members. Buying and setting up new experimental equipment. Designing and programming the operating software for the DCM beamline. Maintenance and minor upgrades of the CSRF computers and printers. Conducting in-house research projects.

Research project: Determination of the structure of the MnOx nano-crystals produced by the bacterium L. discophora with x-ray spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction.

Title of the Ph.D. thesis: Probing Electronic Structure and Chemical Bonding with X-ray Spectroscopy.

4th year undergraduate research project: Ion chromatographic analysis of metal-oxygen cluster compounds.
