As one of the first ten employees I played a crucial role during the pre-opening. I was responsible to send out all offer letters and follow up on the reply, apply for visas, arrange flight tickets and ensure that my new colleagues were looked after once onboard as well. This was an on-going task in addition to processing leave requests, handling accommodation issues as well as my support and guidance was required for employees who were abroad working for their first time in a new culture.
Answering directly to the Resident Manager, I assisted in mainly clerical work such as guest correspondence (written and verbal) and staff related issues. One of my main chores was to follow up on issues on behalf of the Resident Manager, which has given me a good insight of the operations of the various departments in the hotel.
Working as a Concierge I dealt with many issues at the same time. On my shifts I was in charge of the porter desk, valet parkers, hotel chauffeurs as well as servicing the guests with various bookings and information about the hotel and Dubai in general. In this position it was essential to be alert, sharp thinking and having the ability to make quick decisions without permission from a manager, which are characteristics I further developed.
